Bipolar stepper motor

There are two basic winding arrangements for the electromagnetic coils in a two phase stepper motor, one being bipolar and the other unipolar. There are two types of stepper motors: unipolar and bipolar stepper motors. On a fundamental level, these two types work exactly the same way; electromagnets . For bipolare step-motorer forbindes midterpunkterne, fællespunkterne ikke eller til. A bipolar stepper motor has one winding per stator phase. A two phase bipolar stepper motor will have leads.

In a bipolar stepper we don’t have a common . For our purposes, we will focus on stepper motors that can be driven with. A 2-phase bipolar motor will have wires – for each phase. Stepper motors are either bipolar, requiring two power sources or a switchable polarity power source, or unipolar, requiring only one power source.

In bipolar stepper motors, current can flow in both directions; a full-bridge converter is required to drive each of the two windings of a two-phase motor.
